In the first half of the 20th Century when the chain saw was yet to be invented, this summer cabin was built by Victor Oja, the UP's premier designer of Finnish-style log buildings. The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge and the Copper Harbor Catholic Church are other local examples of Oja's craft.
With two private bedrooms and one "dormitory" room, the one-and-a-half story log cabin will sleep nine comfortably. Amenities include 27 acres of pristine forest with 700 feet of rocky shoreline, a mine-rock fireplace, a small screened-in porch and deck, laundry facilities, and all necessary accoutrements—linens, towels, and kitchen paraphanalia. A canoe and Weber kettle is also provided. And, for those who want the rustic with a touch of modern convenience—baseboard electric heat for early spring and late fall, TV, VCR, and phone. A Finnish Sauna is available for your use at the Bed and Breakfast next door.
The cabin is available May through October, by the week, at $1,400. A nonrefundable deposit of 30% is required when the reservation is made. If you cancel less than 30 days prior to your arrival, you are financially responsible for the entire reservation. The cabin is smoke-free; pets are negotiable.
